To Die or Not To Die

Saturday, October 11, 2008

One of our greatest enemies in our spiritual walk is self. Discovering this truth in our lives is the first step to being released from it. Someone once said, "you can't have victory over that which your not willing to face".

Sometimes its just good to sit down and reflect on our actions. Why do we do the things we do? What is the real intention behind it?Many times we find that the real intention behind our action is not agape Love but selfishness. Real losers are not people that fail, but those that fail to see their own mistakes learn from them.
Once we realise that we have areas that we need to die to, the next step is to come to the One that can draw you away from self into His Presence. In His presence is the key that you need to be released from that which holds you back- your self. Freedom from self is found in Him. Let your hearts' cry be "Lord free me from self and a from all of its vanities, to be the person you have call me to be". As you do so you will slowly but surely see the change you have been asking God for. His grace is the fuel for your change. You will have a true change - an 'inside out' change, and not an 'outside in' change which would be merely works.
I write this not as a person who knows all or has passed all stages and died totally to self but as someone who realizes that he desperately needs the Lord as He reveals moment by moment that which needs to die in me. We are all work-in-progress. Have a blessed day!

Here's something to think about - are we so focused on others that we dont have time or room to make an introspection into our own hearts? Do we realize we need to die to our 'self' and without Him this death to self can't happen?

"And He said to all, If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself [disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also]. "

Luke 9:23 (AMP)

"Of one thing we can be sure: if our righteousness is the fruit of our struggle, it is not the righteousness of God for His righteousness is a gift. Self-justification is not holiness even if it looks like it!" Jack Stewart - "The Legalist"
